Chairman’s Corner

Hello Welding Community,

I hope this AWS bulletin finds everyone enjoying a nice start to 2019. Our last Tidewater Section meeting was held January 10. Our speaker was Joe Pittman from Advex Corporation who did an excellent presentation on Phased Array UT.

Our next section meeting is going to be another interesting one. We have Al Sherrill traveling from Miller Electric Co in Appleton Wisconsin to speak to our section about induction heating. Although many industries have used induction heating for decades, it’s a newcomer to industrial and construction applications involving welding. Pre-heating before welding and stress-relieving (i.e. post-heating) after welding are the new uses for induction heating, and companies with welding-intensive operations have significantly increased efficiency as a result. I feel certain that anyone who attends this talk will leave with a better understanding of the potential of induction heating in the welding world.

We hope that you will attend this meeting on the 7th of February at Thomas Nelson Community
College in Hampton.
