Chairman’s Corner

Hello All,

I hope this AWS bulletin finds everyone in good holiday spirits. Our last Tidewater Section meeting was a tour of the Liebherr Mining Truck facility in Newport News. It was a great experience to have an up close view of how these huge trucks are manufactured. Thanks to Paul Miller for setting up this awesome tour and Cort Reiser for allowing our group to visit the Liebherr facility.

Our next Tidewater Section meeting will be held January 10, 2019 at the Thomas Nelson Workforce Development Center. Our speaker will be Joseph Pittman from Advex Corporation who will be doing a presentation on Phased Array UT. This process is widely used for nondestructive testing (NDT) in several industrial sectors such as, construction, pipelines and power generation. This is an advanced NDT method that is used to detect discontinuities such as cracks and flaws and thereby help determine component quality. Please try to join us on the 10th of January.
