Chairman’s Corner

Hello All,

After having our September meeting postponed due to the threat of hurricane Florence, we were fortunate to have Joe Young from the American Welding Society reschedule his trip to speak to our section on October 11th. Joe gave an informative talk about how we should prepare to successfully pass the AWS CWI exam. Thanks to Joe for traveling from Wyoming to speak to our section.

Our next Tidewater Section meeting on November 8th is not really a meeting but a tour of the Liebherr Mining Truck facility in Newport News. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how these magnificent vehicles are manufactured. These are not your everyday truck we see on the highways we travel, these are 400-ton payload, 600-ton gross vehicle weight 3,000 kw gross horsepower machines.

If you plan on joining us for this awesome tour we need to have you call or email your name and company affiliation to us no later than Thursday November 1st. Please email [email protected] or call 757-728-9353 to reserve your spot.

This tour will last approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours. If you have safety glasses and hearing protection please bring them with you, there will be some available prior to the tour if needed, no shorts or open toed shoes allowed.
