Chairman’s Corner

Hello Welding Community

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer, it’s time for us to get back together and talk welding. The executive board members have been busy putting together this seasons programs and would really appreciate your support at the events they have planned.

Our speaker for the first meeting this season will be Joe Young who will be traveling from AWS headquarters in Miami to give his presentation titled “Preparing for a CWI Career”. An interesting side note about Joe is that he represented the United States at the World Skills International welding competition in Calgary, Alberta in 2009. He competed against 21 of the world’s best welders from countries as far away as Iran, Korea, New Zealand, and Brazil and won the silver medal. In the end, only five points separated him from the gold medal winner!

The sections annual golf tournament will be held at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk on October 12th. Please start putting your teams together for this event (see page 5&6 of this bulletin).

For our November meeting we are in the planning stages of having a tour of Liebherr Mining Trucks in Newport News. You will have to call in for this tour as we will have to supply a list of attendees to Liebherr prior to the tour. There will more information coming in our next bulletin.

We hope to see you Thursday, October 11 at Thomas Nelson Community College for our first presentation.
