Join Us on 4/9 for the
Texas High School Welding Series Competition

Saturday, April 9th

8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are proud to announce that AWS North Texas is assisting The Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center in hosting a Texas High School Welding Series Competition on April 9th, 2022. This competition is open to all junior and senior high school students within the AWS North Texas region. We would like for you to share this information with your colleagues, students, and local high school welding teachers. Please feel free to print this information off and share it with everyone. Print the flyer off and post it in your breakroom areas, church bulletin boards, and anywhere else you can.

This is going to be a great opportunity for these high school students to give us their best and compete for prizes and recognition. Their welds will be visually inspected by Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI’s) as well as X-ray tested if they pass the visual inspection. Those that pass the X-ray inspection will receive a welding certification at the end of the day. This is a chance for businesses who need welders to set up a job fair booth and visit with these students, see their abilities and skills firsthand and make them job offers. This is also a good time for welding suppliers to bring out their new equipment and literature and share it with everyone.

This program has been growing for the past several years in the South Texas Region, and now it’s coming to us. You can check out their website at: https://sites.google.com/view/txhsws/txhsws. Our section stepped up and made the Alvarado High School a big success, let’s do it again! Come out and join us April 9thand show support for this program, even if it’s just to see what it’s all about. Show these students they a have a large network of individuals, businesses and welding suppliers who support them in their endeavors to become great welders.

Of course, to make this all happen, we need volunteers and donors. If you’re able to help us out at this event and are willing to volunteer your time, for a few hours or for the day, we would greatly appreciate the help. We need a few CWI’s to help visually inspect the welds and offer feedback to the students to encourage them. We’ll also need people to monitor the booths and keep time, help with set up and tear down, helping pass out awards and trophies, and take pictures. Just as important, we need donations. If you have a spare set of gloves, glasses, chipping hammer, or welding hood you’re willing to donate we can put them to good use; or maybe you’re willing to donate funds to pay for student memberships(student membership is $15.00)or contribute to scholarship funds.

To make this all happen we need donations for the following:

1. Door prizes for food drive

2. Prizes for contest winners (25 total)

3. Scholarship funds for contest winners

4. Donations to pay for student memberships

5. Donations to purchase boots for students who need them

6. CWI volunteers to preform visual inspections on the students welds and       provide feedback

7. Volunteers to work the event

The event will be held at:
Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center
101 Browning Dr.
Arlington, TX 76010

We’re also asking ALL the students(Highschool, in the North Texas Section to draw a logo specifically for the AWS North Texas Section. We plan to have this logo made into sticker, patches for jackets and placed on ball caps as well. These will be passed out at our monthly meetings and various events throughout the year, such as the TXHSWS competitions in the future. If you know an artistically talented welding student at any level who might be up to the challenge be sure to share this with them.
They can send the drawing to us here at: [email protected] and we’ll post the drawings to the section members for a vote. All drawings must be received no later than May 31, 2022.
