The AWS Delmarva Chapter along with students from The Section ventured to M and M Carnot Refrigeration in Federalsburg, Maryland on March 8th for a Submerged Arc Welding Demonstration, and a little networking among students from different counties and instructors/business owners.
Students from Dorchester Career & Technology Center, Parkside Technical Center, Colonel Richardson, Sussex Technical High School and Chesapeake College in Maryland, and guests from all the way down in Accomack, Va collaborated to get a good look and some informative insight into building Pressure Vessels under ASME and AWS codes and requirements, and some of the welding processes used such as Submerged Arc Welding and what it is to be a Welder Operator.
Submerged Arc Welding was demonstrated by M and M Carnot Welding Operator Wes, while Plant Manager Eric Kaiser stepped in to explain the procedures taken in building pressure vessels for refrigeration. M and M Carnot builds pressure vessels and industrial refrigeration equipment and serves customers all across the world. Another company with high demand for qualified welders.
They would treat all participants to dinner after the meeting, which allowed students to discuss career goals and share ideas of entering the welding trade. M and M Carnot has been a huge supporter of the AWS Students in this section and currently employs several from various Technical Centers in the area.
