Students from the Dorchester Career & Technology Center’s Delmarva Section AWS Chapter traveled to C&K Lord this week for a tour, automated equipment demonstrations and a bite to eat.
C&K Lord has been a strong supporter of the program providing nonferrous materials for welding instruction and opportunities for students. Demonstrations were given by Mr. Chris Dixon, who has been with the company for 19 of its nearly 80 years in business in Cambridge, Maryland, and Mr. Jeremy McElvey, who has also been with the company for an extended time. Owner and operator Mr. Kenneth Lord gave the AWS students a good background of the history of the company, while shop manager Ricky Dukes explained some of the jobs and what they entail that C&K Lord do, after all their company slogan is “if it’s made of metal, we can make it”, and they do. Anything stainless steel and beyond from Conveyor work, parts fabrication, laser cutting, layout, artwork, and mechanical systems.
Students were highly impressed with the jobs in the shop and the automated laser/ sawing/water jet operations. Shop fabricator Ayden assisted demonstrations and information.
Of course, Section Chair Bill Giordano was on hand with our new banner for Delmarva.
