The Delmarva Section held its first student weld competition at Dorchester Career and Technology Center in February. The event was hosted by Welding Instructor Chris Baker and DCTC Principal Ashley Robinson. DCTC Culinary Instructor Charlene Zinnel prepared lunch for everyone.
Nine participants from three high schools attended this event. Dorchester Career and Tech Center from Dorchester County, MD, Parkside Career and Technology from Wicomico County, MD, and Badger Technical Center from Accomack County, VA sent their top three welders to compete. Patriot Steel’s Nathan Uncapher and Gary Townsend were the contest judges. Ramco Solutions, Keen Compressed Gas, Matheson Gas, General Refrigeration, and ESAB all contributed to the prize packages for the students.
First Place: Conner Phippin, Parkside CTE won an ESAB Rogue Power Source and ESAB Auto-darkening Helmet
Second Place: Miranda Crist, Dorchester CTC won a Victor Med Duty Cutting Outfit, and a Miller Auto-darkening Helmet
Third Place: Myles Holcomb, Badger Tech Center won a Metabo Grinder, a General Refrigeration Jacket, and a Matheson Auto-darkening Helmet
Fourth Place: Austin Farrow, Badger Tech Center won a Matheson Auto-darkening Helmet
