November Meeting Announcement+Executive Election for 2022-2024 Term |
November Meeting: |
The University of Alberta AWS Student chapter are excited to announce a seminar on “Qualification and Manufacturing of Nuclear Components” by international expert Marcelo Liendo. This seminar is hosted together with the CWB-A Edmonton Chapter and the CWB-A Student Chapter, and is offered for free with their generous support. The emergence of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) marks a paradigm shift towards shop-produced prefab modules, which makes the technology appealing for fabricators and also allows for the use of new technologies and materials. At the same time, the highly regulated environment poses high entry barriers for companies entering the sector and for qualifying new technologies and materials. This presentation will cover the steps from qualification to manufacturing based on practical experiences by a leading expert, including the facility certification process, batch qualification, manufacturing process, and special on-time testing. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A – which will be an amazing opportunity to discuss practical details and get first-hand insights. Mr. Liendo is a Metallurgical Engineer working for Nucleoeléctrica Argentina S.A., the company in charge of the operation of the three nuclear power plants in Argentina, and is also chair of the International Working Group of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Section III. |
