Tuesday, October 12th, 5:30pm

“Chairman’s Corner”

Greetings Welding Community,

I hope this message finds everyone healthy and safe. The Tidewater Section executive committee has been busy in working toward the goal of getting back to holding events for our members and guest.

The first planned event was a “Get Reacquainted Picnic” on Thursday September 16 at Fort Monroe. We had a beautiful day and lots of good food but not very many attendees which was disappointing.

The second event was our annual Larry O’Bryan golf outing on Friday September 24, at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk. We had 11 teams play in this event on another beautiful day. I want to thank all our sponsors and players who helped make this a good fun event.

We have confirmed that Tuesday October 12 the current AWS president Robert Roth will be speaking to our section. Mr. Roth is president and CEO of RoMan Manufacturing Inc. in Grand Rapids, Michigan, an AWS sustaining member company, as well as a member of the AWS Executive and Finance Committees, WEMCO, and RWMA. He also serves on the boards of various organizations and nonprofit corporations. We will be holding this meeting at Thomas Nelson Community College. Please make every effort to attend this meeting and invite a coworker or friend to attend as well. Food and drinks will be provided for this event, please call 757-728-9353 or email [email protected] and let us know how many you have attending so we can have enough food available.

The AWS has scheduled an in person Certified Welding Inspector seminar to be held in Norfolk Virginia October 3-9, 2021, at Tidewater Tech in Norfolk.

As I am writing this message COVID is still living among us, we ask that when attending these events, you do whatever is needed to protect yourselves and others from spreading this illness. We will have hand sanitizer and mask available at each event for everyone’s protection.

Please take time each day to say a prayer for the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who are working on the front lines trying to protect and heal us from this virus. Let’s also pray for a quick cure of this virus so our world can get back to normal quickly.

Respectfully,
Doug Carpenter
Tidewater Section Chairman
