“Chairman’s Corner”

Greetings Welding Community,

I hope this message finds everyone healthy and safe. It’s time for us to get together
again, the Tidewater Section executive committee has been busy working toward the goal of getting back to holding events for our members and guests.
The first planned event is a “Get Reacquainted Picnic” on Thursday, September 16
starting at 5:30 PM. This will be held at shelter 5 at Fort Monroe, the cost of
attending/eating is $5.00 per person. We will be having BBQ and chicken with sides. If you plan on attending, please call ARC3 Gases, 757-728-9353 and let them know how many you will have there, this is important so that we know how much food to prepare.
Your cooperation is appreciated.

The second event will be our annual Larry O’Bryan golf outing on Friday, September 24. This is always a fun event, so we want to get as many people as possible to participate, any monies made on this are used to promote welding in our community. The registration form is attached. Also, any donations of door prizes will be greatly
appreciated.

The third event we have planned is scheduled for Tuesday October 12 which will be a presentation by the current AWS president Robert Roth. We will be holding this meeting at Thomas Nelson Community College, please put this date on your calendar, there will be additional information in future bulletins.

The AWS has scheduled an in person Certified Welding Inspector seminar to be held in Norfolk, Virginia, October 3-9, 2021. If you are interested in becoming a CWI, you can register on the AWS web site.

As I am writing this message COVID is still living among us. I ask that when attending these events, you do whatever is needed to protect yourselves and others from spreading this illness. We will have hand sanitizer and masks available at each event for everyone’s protection.

Please take time each day to say a prayer for the doctors, nurses and medical
professionals who are working on the front lines trying to protect and heal us from this virus. Let’s also pray for a quick cure of this virus so our world can get back to normal quickly.

Respectfully,

Doug Carpenter
Tidewater Section Chairman
