Chairman’s Corner

Greetings welding community,

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer. It’s time to kick off the 2019-2020 American Welding Society Tidewater Section meetings. For those of you who missed our last function, which was the annual fish fry, we had beautiful weather, a nice crowd in attendance and great food. Thanks go out to all of the volunteers that make this such a success each year.

Our next section function will be held at Thomas Nelson Community College on September 12th. Our speaker will be Mark Schaub from The Lincoln Electric Company, Mark will be speaking to us about additive manufacturing. Implemented properly, additive manufacturing can significantly reduce material waste, reduce the amount of production steps, inventory being held, and reduce the amount of distinct parts needed for an assembly. This is an excellent opportunity to learn where manufacturing is headed now and in the future. Please try to attend this presentation and enjoy the company of others that share the privilege of being involved in the welding community.

Our Annual Larry O’Bryan Golf Tournament will be held on October 4th at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk. Start putting your teams together for this event that helps fund our section scholarship and other welding related needs in our community. See pages 5-6 for more info.

This is our first section event this season. I want to thank all of the section board members who give of their time to bring these meetings and events to our area. If it was not for their dedication, we would not be able to enjoy the meetings, tours and events we have each year. I hope to see you at Thomas Nelson on Thursday September 12th.

Tidewater Section Chairman
