Event Summary: The Pittsburgh section January meeting honored Past Chairmen. A presentation of Modern Welding Technologies for Small Modular Reactors (SMR’s) was provided by Jason Hurst who is the Fabrication Manager for NuScale Power. Jason has previous experience as a Welding Engineer for Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC), supporting domestic and abroad new nuclear (AP1000) scopes of work.
After the presentation two members were presented Public Sector Educator of the year Awards:
Huck Hughes Vice Chair with upcoming role as Section Chair has served the Section as Membership and Student Affairs Committee Chair. Huck has been an educator for 22 years and has instructed approximately 1800 students in this time frame. He currently is a welding instructor at Parkway West Career & Technology Center, and holds numerous certifications including: CWE, CWI, ASNT/ACCP Level II, Certified welder Level 3 AWS S.E.N.S.E program (Schools Excelling through National Standards Education), NCCER (National Center for Construction Education Research). He has instructed 10 skills USA state welding competitors, 3 skills USA state weld sculpture competitors, 2 skills USA national competitors, 9 skills USA fabrication competitors. He has created Authorized Testing Facilities (ATF) at Columbiana County and at Parkway West.
Biz Mancini Steamfitters Local Union 449 Apprenticeship Instructor for 14 years teaching over 1200 apprentices. He holds Certified Welding Instructor, Certified Welding Educator, UA Orbital Weld Instructor, UA Instrumentation Instructor/Administrator, National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators/Rigger, LU 449 Authorized Testing Representative and is a graduate of the United Association Instructor program. Biz has developed and administered training of apprenticeship students in specialized subject matter including Trigonometry, Steam Systems, Piping and Instrumentation Drawings, SMAW, GTAW, Orbital Pulsed Gas Tungsten Arc as well as other skill sets.
