April 21, 2022 – Steam Fitters Local 449 Event & Training Center
The AWS Pittsburgh Section held their Annual joint meeting with ASNT. The speaker was Marty Wenzig President/CEO of Industrial Testing Laboratory Services – retired. His presentation showed how when selecting a low radiographic kilovoltage (keV) can contribute to producing a radiographic indication that is not an imperfection. The contributors to this mottled condition are two-fold: radiographically and metallurgically. This condition can create a mottled indication that radiographers may incorrectly identify as incomplete fusion or incomplete penetration. A discussion followed about ways to verify that the weld in question did not have an indication. The presenter was given a presentation award by Lee Parks Chairman of ASNT Pittsburgh Section and Jason Sherman Chairman of AWS Pittsburgh Section.
