February 2018 Meeting Announcement

Greetings North Texas Section Members!

February is the meeting the officers have been waiting for. Our board welcomes AWS President Dale Flood to North Texas. Dale started as a Pipefitter/welder, worked as a weld superintendent at several nuclear facilities supervising manual and mechanized welding operations. Currently working as a Welding Project Manager, R & D, he has numerous patents for welding automation.

As President of the American Welding Society (AWS) he serves on the Board of Directors, a member of the D10 Committee on Piping and Tubing, the D10U Sub-committee on Orbital Pipe Welding, is on the Sacramento Section Executive Committee, and numerous other professional development committees.

He previously served as the AWS District 22 Director covering northern California and Nevada, an AWS Director-at-Large nationally and as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector exam supervisor.

Dinner tickets are $13.58 and include your choice of enchiladas, beans, rice, and a beverage. Dinner tickets must be ordered by February 12th at 11:59 pm. 

Those who wish to attend the event and not order dinner may RSVP for the free ticket on the event page. Those tickets may be reserved up until the event.

Dinner participants must show ticket at the door. You m ay print or show the confirmation email on your phone.

Join us for the annual Sporting Clays Fundraiser
Make sure to get your tickets from a section officer for your chance to participate in a great event. The shoot will be at the Alpine Gun Range in Fort Worth on April 14th. All funds raised during the shoot will go towards the Tim Hatten Memorial CWI Scholarship. Individual and Team event options as well as food and fun! Stay tuned for more information.

Attention College Students and Teachers!
Mark your calendars for April 17th. The North Texas Section is hosting the North Texas Welding Rodeo. College students will be given the opportunity to compete for prizes and bragging rights in both individual and team events. This is only available to currently enrolled students or students who have graduated from a non-traditional school calendar year trade school within 60 days of the event. Stay tuned for more information!

Don’t forget the canned food drive. 

2 cans of food for the North Texas Food bank and receive 1 ticket for the drawing to be held at the end of monthly section meetings!

Scholarships are now open!

Visit AWS.org to apply for several AWS Scholarships that can be used to go to school, take your CWI Seminar, take AWS classes online, and more! Deadlines are February 15th for national scholarship, March 1st for District and Section Scholarships and some have no deadline! Tim Hatten Memorial CWI Scholarship!

This scholarship is for those of you who meet the minimum qualification to become CWIs. It will cover the cost of your exam while the you serve as the section representative in the seminar getting the knowledge and books for no cost. This is a great opportunity for the growth you’re looking for in your career.
