Recap: TCAT Hartsville Student Night / Topic: Welding Careers – Sept 23rd

September 23, 2021 – Tennessee Center for Applied Technology (TCAT); Red Boiling Springs, TN

The Section held a successful Student Night at the Red boiling Springs TCAT. Thanks to the administration for allowing us to meet, and the Culinary Arts Department for supplying the delicious deserts. Students and instructors from the Red Boiling Springs, Livingston, and Hartsville TCATS were fed pizza and desert, while retired welder Marion Brown, Heath Jackson of National Standard Welding Wire, and Welding Engineer Curtis Duncan shared their thoughts on what welding related careers are possible, and what would be required of the students to be successful in their chosen career. After completion of the meal, drawings were held some very nice prizes, including eight welding hoods and some very nice Lincoln Electric welding jackets, gloves, caps, and other gear. After everyone had collected a prize, the group of 36 attendees moved to the shop for a demonstration of an Orbitalum orbital welder by Jamie Holmes of E.H. Wachs and a question-and-answer session. The Section would like to thank the Red Boiling Springs TCAT, and Board members Heath Jackson, David Porter, and Marion Brown for their time and energy in making this event a success.
