Welding/Welding Engineering Students

The official Mission Statement of the American Welding Society is to advance the science, technology and application of welding and allied processes including: joining, brazing, soldering, cutting and thermal spray.

In this advancement, the society seeks to promote careers in the welding industry. The mission of AWS Districts and Sections is to support the mission of the society as a whole. We do this through regular meetings of interest to the local members. These meetings generally include a meal followed by discussions in the sections business, as well as planning of section events. They often include facility tours in the section’s territory, technical meetings about welding and weld testing, and the annual presentation of scholarships.

Scholarship funds come from various sources including annual rebates to the section from AWS headquarters and occasional fundraiser events like the upcoming welding competition. Another great source of funds can come from individuals and businesses who recognize their important role in supporting the furtherance of the AWS Mission.

DONATIONS: You or your company can use the DONATE button below to begin the simple process of making a tax-deductible donation to the American Welding Society in support of our Section Scholarship Fund.

SCHOLARSHIPS: If you are a student currently enrolled in a welding program or welding engineering program at a Vo-Tech school or a university, you can fill out a scholarship application and be considered for funds from national, district and/or section funds. A specific application is required for each level.

The Nashville Section gives around $4000 per year to scholarship applicants. One of those recipients receives the prestigious Roy Petty Memorial Scholarship, whose namesake was a CWI in the industry for more than 30 years.

So whether this is your first time learning about the society and what it has to offer, or you’re a long-time member, thanks for your consideration. Your contributions could help increase the amount of scholarships and the number of them that we are able to offer.

Sincerely,
AWS Nashville Section
