The Mobile Section was honored to host a joint meeting with the Pascagoula, Birmingham, and Auburn Sections.
There were 27 in attendance at the meeting that was held at the AIDT Maritime Training Center in Mobile, AL
Dr. Richard Polanin, AWS National President, was the speaker for the night. Dr. Polanin spoke on the future of AWS and how we recruit the next generation of members who will one day take our place in the organization. Dr. Polanin stated the key to recruiting is to determine how to generate interest amongst today’s younger generation who are still in school. Dr. Polanin also discussed scholarships, grants and the AWS trailer and its tours across the U.S.
Dr Polanin and Cal Pepper, District 9 Director, then recognized recipients of District and Section Awards for 2021. Derrick Lett of the Mobile Section, received a District 9 Meritorious Award and Brenda Amos, also of the Mobile Section, received a District 9 Directors Award. Charles K. Hembree was awarded the CWI of the Year Award for the Mobile Section.
Before concluding, the three students in attendance were presented with welding helmets donated to the Mobile Section by Hyundai Welding Products. Other door prizes were also given out and the Pascagoula and Mobile Sections presented Dr. Polanin with a small gift of appreciation.
The Mobile Section would like to thank everyone for their attendance, especially those involved in putting this meeting together and making it happen. And to those of you who traveled from Auburn, Pascagoula and Louisiana THANK YOU!
