Greetings Everyone,
First and foremost I would like to thank everyone who made it to our September meeting. We had a tremendous turnout totaling 103 with 63 being students. For those who could not attend, we awarded 10 scholarships totaling $39,500. Congratulation to all of the scholarship recipients. Thank you also to Jackie Morris for hosting an excellent round of “Welding Trivia”.
Moving on to this month, our presenter will be Michael Stephan of Nelson Stud Welding. Michael has been with Nelson for 16 years. He currently serves as the Field Sales Representative for the regional gulf coast area. This month Michael will be showing us some of the latest technology Nelson has to offer with stud welding. He will provide us with examples of how stud welding is currently utilized amongst the various industries and what benefits it has to offer other industries. Michael will be bringing with him Nelson’s new battery powered stud welding machine to provide us some live demonstrations and an opportunity to try your hand at stud welding.
As I mentioned during our September’s meeting, the AWS Mobile Section is currently finalizing the process for our Mobile Section Welder Workforce Grant. This grant will be available for schools and career tech programs with a welding program within the AWS Mobile Section district. Once the grant is finalized, a newsletter will be sent out providing the details of the grant along with where and how to apply.

Please post this meeting notice in an area around your school that is easily accessible to your welding students. As we are moving to Eventbrite for registration, students will need to start registering themselves to attend.
