Join Us on 5/19/2021 for Dr. Ben Pletcher: Why Heat Input is Critical

Online Meeting: Wednesday, May 19th
5:30-8:00PM PDT

Speaker: Dr. Ben Pletcher

Overview:

This will be a continuation meeting from February when Dr. Pletcher spoke on heat input controls for carbon steel and T1 materials. His presentation went so well and was engaged with the audience that he was unable to finish. He is now coming back to finish his presentation on stainless steel and aluminum. We will be starting the night off with a meet and greet and business meeting. The business meeting will include the treasurer’s report and voting for the candidates nominated for the board.

Heat input control during welding is critical to maintaining the designed material properties. Depending on what metal alloy we are welding and how it was formed can change the specific reason we need to monitor and control our heat input and welding procedure. We will explore and explain the what and why of controlling heat input using basic metallurgy concepts for the following alloys:
• Stainless Steel
• Aluminum
