“Why Heat Input Control is Critical?”
with Ben A. Pletcher, PH. D, P.E.

Update for Meeting – We are needing to reschedule the meeting that was previously scheduled for tonight, 2/18/2021. The new meeting will be held next Thursday, 2/25/2021. This is due to recent weather events affecting the speaker/presenters ability to join tonight.

Heat input control during welding is critical to maintaining the designed material properties. Depending on what metal alloy we are welding and how it was formed can change the specific reason we need to monitor and control our heat input and welding procedure. We will explore and explain the what and why of controlling heat input using basic metallurgy concepts for the following alloys:
  • A36 / A572 Gr. 50 type – Low Carbon Structural Steels
  • A514 T1 – High Strength Steels
  • Stainless Steel Alloys
  • Aluminum Alloys
