Dear AWS Alaska Section 125 Members,
Hope all had a safe, healthy and Happy Holiday season (Thanksgiving thru New Year’s).
This is an update on the status of the American Welding Society Alaska Section.
Below bullets is an update questions and brief for the Alaska Section Members to consider.
- Is there any AWS Alaska Members in good standing interested and willing to volunteer for AWS Alaska Section Officers and other Section positions?
As you have probably received (hopefully) emails distributed from the AWS headquarters and is also on the AWS Alaska website http://awssection.allcovered.io/alaska/, the Alaska Section is seeking and needing volunteers for officer and section positions. Current Officers, Dennis Long and Creighton Moore (Chair and Treasurer respectively) are in an acting positions.
This is noted in the Alaska Section website, Section Officers. http://awssection.allcovered.io/alaska/section-officers/.
Here in the near future if AWS Alaska Section does not fulfill current Section Officers, the section could go dormant (inactive) and could possibly be administered by another District 19 Section outside (from lower 48 states). The local impacts could have meetings, notification of events, scholarships, budget, and others.
- Is there any interest in have meeting (virtual on-line) during the pandemic restriction?
The COVID-19 pandemic local and global has changed the criteria with social gathering, especially AWS meetings. The current option is on-line meetings which AWS Headquarter(HQ) has been very proactive with and supportive with Sections.
- Is there any AWS Alaska Members, Life Members, or Corporate Members that have interest in putting on a virtual meeting?
This can be achieved by an AWS AK Member contacting AWS HQ for help on how to set-up for an on-line meeting. Meeting participates can either phone call-in or virtual on-line to a meeting.
