Sky Cylinder Testing Scholarship

Rick Richardson graduated from the University of Denver, and then spent several months learning how to weld at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in Troy, Ohio.  After attending welding school, he then went back to work in the family welding supply business.  Eventually, he became President of the company and expanded growth into other cities in Indiana and Kentucky.  The family business was sold in 1998 to Airgas, and Rick’s passion for the welding industry did not subside.

In 1999, Rick founded Sky Cylinder Testing in Evansville, Indiana.  The company services the high pressure gas industry with the mission ‘to ensure gas cylinder safety’.  In 2014, Sky Cylinder added an additional plant in Atlanta, Georgia, to service the southeast market.  The company now operates in 17 states, and has over 70 employees dedicated to high pressure cylinder safety.

This scholarship is available to students living in Indiana or Kentucky, and attending Ivy Tech Community College-Evansville pursuing studies in welding.

Welder Training Scholarship
For students seeking welder training in a certificate program less than two years in length through a trade school, community college, or other facility providing welder training. Each District has a minimum of 25 – $1,000 scholarships to award. Applications are accepted January-November and selections are made on a rolling basis until the District awards the designated funds for the year.
