Event Summary: Section 5, District 6 recently hosted a preliminary welding competition for high school students at Capital Region BOCES in Albany, NY. This event served as the first step toward qualifying for the prestigious AWS District 6 Thruway Cup, set to take place in Rochester, NY.
A total of nine talented competitors from across our region participated in the challenge. Students were tested on their welding skills in three major processes: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
The stakes were high, with participants battling for scholarships, welding merchandise, bragging rights, and—most importantly—the honor of representing our section at the district-level competition.
