17th Annual Student Welder Competition

 

Saturday, November 11th –

7:30 AM Registration

8:00 AM Start (No Late Arrivals)

New Orleans Pipe Trades – Metairie, Louisiana

The AWS New Orleans Section is excited to announce its 17th ANNUAL STUDENT WELDING COMPETITION on November 11, 2023. This competition is funded by proceeds of the New Orleans Section’s Annual Fishing Rodeo. Family members of participating Students and Educational Staff are invited to come out and participate in the event. However, due to the potential safety hazards associated with welding, only participating welders and judges will be allowed in the welding booth areas. 

Welders must be a registered student at a New Orleans area* State Technical or Community College, Career Center, Delgado or Nunez Systems, or an Apprentice of the Ironworkers local 58 or New Orleans Pipe Trades Apprenticeship Programs. 
*Within the AWS New Orleans Section’s Jurisdiction (Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes). The educators at these schools will be responsible for coordinating the eligibility and registration of their students for this competition. On the day of the event, a Photo ID must be presented prior to the competition. (Must have photo ID with you to compete). Competitors are required to be an AWS student member* and present membership card at sign-in (may be printed from Member Dashboard on AWS Website). There will be awards presented for the two levels of competition:
The beginner level will be from 0-1 years of welding experience and will be welding in the 3F position. The advanced level of competition will be 1 or more years of welding experience and will be welding in the 3G position.

 

NOTE: On the day of the competition the students will be challenged with a written exam on the “Science of Welding”.

All Competitors must be registered prior to the cutoff date of November 3, 2023.

November General Meeting

 

Tuesday, November 14th – 6:30 PM

Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU):

Science & Technology Building 801, Hammond, Louisiana

Mr. Clifford (Jim) Bunzendahl, Engineering/Welding Training w/CN Railroad will be providing a live demonstration and presentation on “AWS D15.2/M-Recommended Practices for the Welding of Rails and Related Rail Components for Use by Rail Vehicles/Orgo-Thermite Welding”. This month’s meeting is sponsored by Streetside Market Global Cuisine, Mr. Bryan Wong, Owner.

This is a FREE meeting for anyone interested in the Welding Industry.Â
