Event Summary:On Wednesday, November 6th, section 137 of the American Welding Society met at Beaufort
Community College in Washington NC. During this meeting, students of the community college
as well as surrounding high schools learned about why the American Welding Society is
important to us as welders, as well as how to join and the benefits of becoming a
member(Opportunities, scholarships, etc.). Mark Sapp of section 137 gave the presentation to the
students while they were fed Subway sandwiches for dinner, after Mark’s presentation local
vendors (Arc 3, Airgas, and Dillon Supply) gave a small presentation about what they do for the
community and what they sell. After the vendor presentation, there was a raffle for AWS hats.
After the meeting concluded the instructors of BCC, Ted Clayton and Eric Braddy gave a tour of
their shop as well as a sculpture that was made by Braddy and some of his students that is now
on campus. Section 137 is also in talks with the instructors of BCC to formulate a welding
competition for eastern NC colleges and high schools at the beginning of 2025.
