Recap: April 2026 Section Meeting and Technical Discussion

Date of Event: 04/14/2026

Location: World Testing Inc, Mt. Juliet, Tn

Number of Attendees: 14

Presenter/Notable Guest(s): Robert W O’Neal, Sr, Co-Owner World Testing, Inc. / ASNT NDT Level III / AWS CWI / AWS District 8 Director Elect

Event Summary: Bob O’Neal and the staff at World Testing see many things during the course of performing inspections. Following dinner, Bob shared many examples of what they see while performing those inspections with those in attendance in-person and also virtual attendees. Things seen during the course of performing welding inspection shared by Bob included the basic issues such as undersized welds, undercut, and situations where weld locations did not match drawing or specification requirements. Bob’s discussion also included issues such as welding of bolts not intended for welding, advertising and other sign support posts fabricated by welding where the heavy wall tubular members are butt welded together with no weld joint preparation, and situations where CWIs are invited to make inspections of welds that are not accessible or have already been covered, either with paint or insulation. Such is the life of a CWI / welding inspector. Thanks to Bob and Butch O’Neal, and the World Testing staff for hosting the event and supporting the Nashville Section of the AWS.
