The Mobile Section was honored to host a joint meeting with the Pascagoula, Birmingham, and Auburn Sections. There were 53 in attendance at the meeting that was held at the AIDT Maritime Training Center in Mobile, AL on March 16th. Cal Pepper, AWS District 9 Director served as speaker for the evening.
Cal gave an update and brief financial status of the American Welding Society, highlighting Scholarships, District Conference and Welder Workforce Grants. Award recipients were then recognized.
Scott Cooper, of the Mobile Section and Danny Taylor, a past member of the Birmingham Section and current member of the Mobile Section received their District 9 award for Educator of the Year. Scott is a welding instructor at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. Danny is a welding instructor at Bishop State Community College. Danny recently relocated to the Mobile area from Birmingham and transferred his membership. The Mobile Section is honored to have him as a member and has already brought him on board as part of the Mobile Section Executive Committee.
George Michael Bailey Jr. received a District 9-Mobile Section CWI of the Year Award.
Dinner was provided by Café Catering.
Before concluding, a door prize drawing was held and two lucky winners went home with a DeWalt grinder. PDH certificates were also issued.
