Presentation Title: Welding Productivity—Measurement & Optimization

Abstract Time is money. Maximizing the bottom line in a competitive economic landscape means all available resources—cents and seconds—must be utilize to absolute fullest.

This presentation serves as an introduction to the broad field of welding economics—the understanding of actual welding process cost. The calculations involved in determining welding process cost are not particularly complex but this presentation aims to identify some of the many contributors to total cost and cycle time, how these contributors can be measured, and how they may influence overall manufacturing process cost and workflow.

Welding economics is introduced as a stepping stone to the discussion of welding process optimization. Parameter adjustment and filler metal/process selection will be highlighted as two key methods in the reduction of welding process cost.

Presented By Robert Fox—Marketing Specialist, Hobart Brothers LLC

Professional Biography Robert Fox is a marketing specialist for Hobart Brothers LLC, a leading manufacturer of welding electrodes and rods. He is currently responsible for the development of technical marketing content in support of the company’s metal cored and aluminum wire portfolios. During his 9 years of service with Hobart, Robert has also served as a welding engineer in the company’s applications engineering department. He has continued to provide technical support through open dialog with customers during product selection and procedure optimization. Robert is an alumnus of Ferris State University’s 2012 welding engineering technology program.
