Event Summary: On May 15th, the Third Annual AWS/John T. Blong Technology Center Welding Competition was held for local High Schools and College students. 56 students competed for the $1,000.00, $750.00, and 500.00 scholarship prizes for SMAW, GMAW, GTAW welding processes. Ten vendors (Silver Hawk Fabrication, Union Tank Car, The Raymond Corporation, SSAB, John Deere Davenport Works, Musco Lighting, McLaughlin Body Company, Kinze Manufacturing Inc., Fronius USA, and Vermeer) participated in the event in hopes of recruiting top talent and showcasing their company and it’s benefits. Parents, High School and College Instructors, and College Board Members were there for support and seeing firsthand how strong our welding economy is the Midwest.
