Event Summary: The American Welding Society Delmarva Section held their annual AWS Student Welding Competition hosted by Sussex Technical High School on Saturday, February 10th, 2024. This event had over a dozen contestants from four different High Schools in the Section and had nearly four thousand dollars in prizes including AWS Scholarships, which the AWS’ own Stephanie Hoffman was on hand to distribute as well as inform guests of the AWS’ opportunities for students. Sussex Technical High Schools Christian Kipp did a great job hosting the event. AWS Delmarva Section Chair and Founder Biazzio Giordano, who has put great effort into the newly developed Section was pleased with the event.
First Place went to Michael Parks from Parkside High School CTE, he won an ESAB Stick welder donated by George Myers of ESAB and an AWS Scholarship worth $1500.00. His instructor is Mr. Jon Brittingham.
Second Place honors went to Jonathan Ramirez from T.H. Badger Technical High School North. He took home a Victor Journeyman cutting outfit donated by Rick Keen of Keen Compressed Gases, an ESAB auto darkening helmet also donated by George Myers of ESAB and a $1000.00 Scholarship from the AWS. His instructor is Mr. Dale Spyker
Third Place was won by Brandon Hurd of Polytech High School, and he received a Tool bag with an angle grinder and other various hand and welding tools. His instructor is Mr. Justin Land
Materials for welding were donated by Mr. Tony Phillips, DS Pipe Supply of Salisbury, Md
