Presentation: The AWS Western Carolina Section will host a joint meeting with the ASME Greenville Section. We are privileged to have Walter Sperko, P.E., President of Sperko Engineering in Greensboro NC, speaking on “Basic Steel Welding Metallurgy”. Mr. Sperko’s presentation will focus on the following questions and issues:
Walter J. Sperko, P.E., has extensive experience in welding engineering, metallurgical engineering, design, failure analysis, and quality assurance. His industrial experience is primarily with piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks and structural steel. He has a BA and a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He is a professional Engineer registered in North Carolina and other states. He is a long-time member and past-chairman of ASME Boiler Code Standards Committee IX, Welding, Brazing and Fusing Qualifications and a member of several of its subgroups, a member of Section III Standards Committee, a member of the B31 Standards committee and past-chairman of AWS TAC. Mr. Sperko teaches publicly offered courses worldwide in piping design, analysis and fabrication and has taught a 3-day class on how to use ASME Section IX regularly since 1981. He has published articles in the Welding Journal, Welding, and The Fabricator. He is a Fellow of the ASME and a Counselor of the AWS. He holds Five US patents.
