Event Summary: AWS District 6 section leaders gathered at the end of May for the annual District Conference and team dinner, bringing together representatives from across the district to discuss leadership, section growth, and continued support for welding education.
During the conference, district leaders selected attendees for the AWS Leadership Symposium and AWS Instructor Institute, as well as recipients of District 6 scholarships and awards. In addition to regular AWS business, the group formed several new subcommittees focused on welding competitions, including the NYS Thruway Cup, student engagement and scholarships, and CWI round table discussions.
Attendees also participated in small-group discussions centered on best practices, common challenges, and opportunities to strengthen key section activities. These conversations provided valuable insight into how sections can better support members, students, educators, and industry professionals throughout District 6.
This year’s conference also included the District 6 election. Lexi McDermott was elected to serve as the 2028–2030 AWS District Governor.
