Event Summary: The Pittsburgh Section enjoyed a tour of the Community College of Allegheny Counties Makerspace Lab that supports entrepreneurs by offering low cost opportunities using advanced manufacturing, prototyping and design. Following the tour of the lab there were presentations by two speakers.

The first presentation was by Nathan Moyer the Airgas Great Lakes region Automation Sales Manager. Nathan shared insights on handheld Laser Welding technology along with the detailed safety and training needing to be implemented when using a laser welding system. Nathan also discussed Collaborative robots known in the industry as “Cobot’s” and the difference between a Cobot and Industrial Robot.

The second presentation was by Justin Verbosky the Industrial Account Manager for Stanley Black & Decker. Justin demonstrated the advancements in battery operated tools along with a new 60 Volt battery that can sense and automatically adjust if a system is 18, 20 or 60 volts. The demonstrations of the different tooling lines highlighted the safety philosophies that Stanley Black & Decker builds into its product lines.
