About 2025 AWS President Richard L. Holdren:

President Richard L. Holdren has been a member of the American Welding Society since 1972, beginning as a student. He attended The Ohio State University, receiving his degree in Welding Engineering. President Holdren is an AWS Certified Welding Engineer, AWS Senior Certified Welding Inspector, a CWI since 1978 and a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio. He is also an AWS Counselor Award recipient and AWS Life Member. He is an ASNT Level III and has received the ASNT Fellow Award, is an IIW International Welding Engineer, and a Canadian Welding Bureau Welding Engineer.

With nearly 50 years of experience in welding engineering and nondestructive examination, President Holdren has served more than 45 years as an AWS member and/or chair of numerous AWS certification, education, and technical committees. He has also served on the AWS Board of Directors as a Director at Large and a Vice President. President Holdren is currently the Senior Welding Engineer of ARC Specialties Technical Services and Principal Welding Engineer of Welding Consultants LLC.

President Holdren was selected as President by the Society’s esteemed National Nominating Committee. Nominations are submitted for National Office (President, Vice President, and Director-At-Large) and during the annual FABTECH Show, the committee meets to select these Offices. These selections are made a few years in advance.
