Recap: Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair

Date of Event: 02/25/2026

Location: Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana

Event Summary: Jaymon Williams, a senior, from John Curtis Christian School, has won the Senior Division of the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair held at Tulane University in February 24 & 25, 2026. He received a check for $150, a Certificate & a Welding Journal. His certificate listed his winning follow-on project title “Does a Top Coat Applied to SIOZ Enhance or Prohibit Corrosion Protection on Welded & Plain Carbon Steel?” He had exhausted research involving corrosion on sheet steel and had all the pictures, data, graphs and results and conclusions.
He was chosen to go to the Louisiana Science & Engineering Fair and took 4th place in the Material Science category.

In the Junior Division, Jett Jones, a seventh grader from Lake Forest Charter School, won the Award of $100 check & a Certificate & a Welding Journal for his project entitled, “Muscle Controlled Prosthetic Prototype Arm.” He performed the materials joining process of “Soldering” to join the wires to the control module which clearly placed him in the running to win the N.O. Section welding award. His project was in the Embedded Systems and Robotics and Intelligent Machines category.

A letter was sent to each teacher thanking them for encouraging their student to continue their research in the vast field of welding research.
