Event Summary: AWS New Orleans Section’s Officer Bruce Hallila has been participating as a Judge for the Greater New Orleans (GNO) Science and Engineering Fair on behalf of the Section for many years. This year was no exception. The Judging of the GNO S&E Fair was held on Tuesday, February 18 & Wednesday February 19, 2025, from 9 AM l- Noon at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Senior High School Welding Project winner, Jaymon Williams went on to compete in the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair with his project titled “To Blast or Not to Blast – Surface Prep of Carbon Steel, (with & w/o Welding), Before Coating Affects Corrosion Mitigation.” The Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair was held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 26, 2025, where Jaymond took 2nd Place in the Material Science Category. The New Orleans Section is proud to have been part of Jaymond’s accomplishments. The AWS New Orleans Section annually provides monetary awards at the GNO Science Fair for local students interested in the Welding and Welding Engineering related fields. We would also like to thank Section Officer Hallila for his continued dedication to this event.
