Santa Fe Community College will host the September 19, 2019 AWS NM Section Meeting. A tour and overview of SFCC\u2019s Welding Program will highlight coursework and facilities used to prepare students for careers in a broad range of industrial sectors. Coursework covers the welding basics, safety, quality and testing methods as well as focus on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Tungsten Gas Arc Welding (GTAW), Oxy Acetylene Welding and Cutting (OAW, OAC) and allied processes. Qualified, experienced instructors train students on the most current welding techniques to meet certification requirements in the college\u2019s state-of-the-art Trades and Advanced Technology Center.<\/p>
Did you know that the passion for welding spans the globe? Dr. Pat Hochanadel of the Los Alamos National Laboratory will provide a presentation about the International Institute of Welding (IIW). The IIW allows for a global exchange of welding science and technology with experts from over 50 countries. Dr. Hochanadel will provide a summary of his experience on the American Council of IIW (ACIIW) which is sponsored by the American Welding Society and the 20+ Technical Commissions and Working Groups. Examples of science and technology exchanges and how IIW benefits welding in the United States will be provided.<\/p>
