The American Welding Society Foundation awards over $2.5 million annually for education and training in welding and related fields!
Students in the Idaho/Montana Section may be eligible for the following scholarships:
National, District, and Section Scholarships – Deadline March 1st for the following fall term
National Scholarships
For students pursuing a specific degree at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university. Scholarships range from $3,000 – $5,000+.
District Scholarships
A minimum of $15,000 is available in each of AWS’s 22 Districts for students pursuing a degree or certificate in a welding or welding-related program. Scholarships typically range from $1,000 to $2,500+.

Clark Family Welding Engineering Scholarship (District 20)
Denis Clark is a welding engineer, “Ohio State MS-WE 1983” who spent his career in welding research at the Sandia and Idaho National Laboratories. He is a Professional Engineer and a Certified Welding Inspector. This annual award in honor of his family is meant for welding technical professionals completing four-year technical degrees contributing to the advancement of welding research and technology.
Priority will be given to students in the fourth/final year pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or closely related program.
Women of Gases & Welding – District 20 Scholarship
Founded in November 2011, the Women of Gases & Welding (WGW) has a mission to enhance the success of women in the gases and welding industry through advocacy, recruitment, and professional development. Functioning as a committee within GAWDA (Gases and Welding Distributors Association), WGW designs professional development programming for women at national conferences and engages sponsors to support programming and scholarships for women.
Norco & Miller Electric UBTech Scholarship
The Norco & Miller Electric UBTech Scholarship was established by Norco and the Miller Electric Mfg. Co for a student attending Uintah Basin Technical College in a minimum of a 900 HR Certificate Program course of study that will result in a 900 HR UBTech Program Certificate.
Welder Training Scholarship
For students seeking welder training in a certificate program less than two years in length through a trade school, community college, or other facility providing welder training. Each District has a minimum of 25 – $1,000 scholarships to award. Applications are accepted January-November and selections are made on a rolling basis until the District awards the designated funds for the year.
