Event Report for February 12, 2026, Section Meeting

Twenty-three attended the social, dinner, and presentation in Room 111 of the OSU Welding Engineering facility on west campus.

Section chair Jerry Van Meter opened the evening by presenting a surprise meritorious section award to past chair Jason Keys.

James Przybylski, account manager from Luvata, reviewed how resistance welding electrodes and power sources are matched to successfully join different alloys, including when and how weld tempering is used to optimize joint properties. His presentation concluded with a video of a weld cross-section showing nugget development as pressure and current were applied.

Nick Avedissian followed with a look at how simulation is being used in the automotive sector to optimize resistance welding. He described tools he developed to significantly reduce modeling effort by evaluating stack-up effects of weld power, clamp pressure, material thickness, joint fit-up, thermal conductivity, and electrode geometry—reducing the number of physical welds and tests needed to qualify a WPS and yielding more cost-effective welding schedules.
