Members of the AWS Columbia Section: Join us on Thursday, September 29th for our first meeting of the 2022-2023 season. Midlands Technical College in West Columbia will be our host, and we will be joined by AWS District 5 Director Daryl Peterson.

AWS Dinner Meeting

A New Technology for Fuel Pool Liner Welding

Presentation: Gary Cannell will be presenting on A New Technology for Fuel Pool Liner Welding. The talk will review the shortage of welders / welding operators in industry, its impact and how industry can address the issue: Better recruitment and technology. Will also review development of an emerging technology and its application to highly critical welding applications. Bio: Gary is a Technical Fellow with Fluor Corporation in the area of welding and materials engineering. He is currently assigned as a staff consultant to the CPCCo, Cs/Sr Capsule Dry Storage Project at the Hanford Site. Gary is actively engaged in the development and application of emerging welding technologies associated with radioactive materials packaging and dry storage. Gary is a member on two ASME BPVC, Section III / Section XI code committees. Gary has published and presented numerous technical papers during his nearly 40 years industry experience.

Online: No charge to join via Zoom but must register via Eventbrite
