Event Summary: John Deere manufactures excavators weighing from 17 to 52 tons at this 1.2 million square foot plant. Excavators are made from steel plate from 1/4 to 2 inches thick, and they contain a lot of welds. Over 300 welders working 3 shifts use GMAW to tack the parts together, but robots do the heavy section welding. The plant was amazingly clean for a welding shop.
