October 8, 2021 – Southeastern Regional Technical College; Tifton, GA Held our District 5 Student Welding Competition. District 5 Director Daryl Peterson presented the check to the 1st Place winner, Alejandro Martinez. Had 5 students from SRTC and Albany Technical College. Presented SRTC with a banner for hosting competition.
July 27, 2021 – West GA Technical College; Newnan, GA Instructor Carrie Pazolt was District 5 Educator of the Year last year. Due to COVID, she was able to receive her award this year. Instructor Joe Pennington looked on with Carrie.
April 29, 2021 – Calhoun, GA Grand Opening of welding supply company in Calhoun, GA.Vendors were on hand to answer questions.Local businesses showed up and GA Trade School students were also on site.
April 15, 2021 – Smyrna, GA Fortis Tech hosted a local competition with 4 schools. Fortis Tech., GA Trade School, Gwinnett Tech., and Chattahoochee Tech. Alexis Isbell from GA Trade School, along with Instructor Stephen Leone, won 1st place.
This meeting was a technical meeting where Eric Kuhn and Dennis Johnson, CWI, discussed the different types and importance of bend testing methods: x-ray, macro etching and penetrate testing. Robert and Rene visited Savannah Tech to discuss membership benefits and variety of scholarships. Robert visited with the Savannah Tech Student Chapter Board Members to help with activities and annual reports. We raffled off 1 electronic welding helmet and 1 grinder. Savannah Student Chapter celebrated their 11 years existence.
