Welding Instructor: Chris Overfelt
Why teach? After seeing how his knowledge of
welding and race car fabrication has helped him, Chris Overfelt decided to
teach students that otherwise would not get that knowledge. Working with race
cars is one of his hobbies that he enjoys most.
What certifications does he hold? Mr. Overfelt is in the process of getting
his:American Welding Certification Certified Welding Inspector Education Certification
What interested him into teaching at Burton?Mr. Overfelt enjoys
the support that he gets from other teachers and staff members. "I was
once a student at Burton. When a job was open for a Welding and Motor Sports
teacher, the previous teacher recommended me. I was excited about teaching
at a school that I once attended."

Greenfield Education & Training Center
A description of the Intensive Welder Training Program (IWTP) is:
Virginia Western Community College offers an Intensive Welder Training Program (IWTP) at the Greenfield Education & Training Center located in Daleville, Virginia.
In less than four months, you can learn a skilled trade that can help you to begin your welding career at a local company, where starting wages could average $12 to $14 per hour and experienced welders can earn $25,000 to $50,000 per year!
Developed by and for area employers, this program includes college credit courses in math, blueprint reading, drafting and welding. Students will also complete an internship with a local company. The program is lab oriented; with small classes where students can obtain the help they need to be successful.
You will earn 16 college credits through Virginia Western Community College, and Financial Aid may be available to assist you with tuition and book costs of approximately $1600 for the entire program. (This is the IN STATE tuition rate.)
