  AWS Section Meetings
General Information

AWS membership consists of engineers, scientists, educators, researchers, welders, inspectors, welding foremen,
business owners, company executives, and sales associates.  Interests include automatic, semi-automatic and
manual welding, as well as brazing, soldering, ceramics, lamination, robotics, and safety and health.

Meetings provide great educational and networking opportunities.  You do not have to be an AWS member to
attend.  Professionals, students and guests are always welcomed!

"November 2017 Meeting"

Greetings AWS San Antonio Section Members and Friends:

Below are the details for our upcoming section meeting.

Richard Baldwin and Joe srubar will be presenting. Both men are founding members
of personal energy transportation (P.E.T.). They produce and deliver three wheeled
all terrain wheel chairs operated by hand power to underdeveloped countries as a
faith based non profit organization.

"The Value of Certification"

The San Antonio section was honored to have AWS President John Mendoza give a very interesting presentation about CWI certification with emphasis on the history of how this important certification originated and how it has grown through the years. Also addressing the group was Denine Tomlin, Alamo Colleges Industry Cluster Coordinator, who was instrumental in bringing Alamo Colleges the special recognition and classification as an official AWS Certified College related to welding instruction. Special recognition and appreciation awards were handed out by District 18 Director John Bray to section members Rachel Marin, Howard Thomas, Clifton Rogers, and students Kyle Wiedenfeld and John Ortiz. This meeting was well attended and enjoyed by all.

Safety Inspection of Boston's "Big Dig"

Speaker: Brian Chen, Ph. D, P.E.

   Pictured at left is guest speaker and
   AWS member Brian Chen.

Brian presented the scope of the safety audit that was performed following the fatal ceiling panel collapse
that occurred in one of the tunnels of Boston's "Big Dig." He also discussed the inspection techniques
used in this audit and the results of the investigation.

Quality Control in Pipe Inspection
