The local section of the American Welding Society selected
new officers during their May meeting.
The meeting was held at Scovil Golf Course. There was
a golf outing before the meeting with prises for the lowest and highest
scores for men and women. Esab Welding and Cutting Products provided the
prises. The dinner was bar-be-que and chicken with salad side dishes.
The guest speaker was Norm Helton, Vice President of Manufacturing
with Pandjiris Inc. in St. Louis. As District 14 Chairman, Norm spoke about
the importance of being a member and taking an active role in the local
section. He spoke about Sustaining and Supporting memberships and the advantages
both offer. Norm also talked about the educational scholarships offered
by the American Welding Society, District 14 and The Foundation. District
14 distributes $5,600.00 in scholarships and generally has few in any applicants.
In his four years as Chairman, Norm has spead the word and it starting
to pay off. At the District meeting in June there were seventeen applicants
for scholarships.
The following people were selected as officer for the
up coming year. The Chairman is Dan Hanke from Kelly Construction Inc.
Dan is the Qauilty Control Manager for Kelly. First Vice President(education)
is Kyle Nichols with CNA Commercial Insurance. Kyle is a Senior Loss Control
Rep. with CNA. Brian Huff is the Second Vice President (memberships). Brian
is the President of Midwest School of Welding and Fabricating. The Section
secretary is Brent Kerley with Blaw-Knox. Brent is a Manufacturing Engineer.
The tresurer is Karen Huber with Caterpiller. Karen is a Welding Engineering
Supervisor.

The
AWS has a line of personal products called the "American Welder Gear".
The products feature a very unique and attractive logo of a Bald Eagle
with a welder, aircraft, ship, car, and an oil field. The top of the logo
has the words "American Welder".
The product line includes two different types of jackets, baseball
cap, sweatshirts, denim shirts, and polo type shirts all featuring the
"American Welder" logo. There is a belt buckle, coffee mug and logo patch
as well.
The entire product line is made in America and best represents
the quality, reiability and craftmenship of the American Welder.

The incoming Chairman, Dan Hanke,
Kelly Construction Inc. has initiated the first newsletter for the Sangamon
Section of District 14 of the American Welding Society. Everyone is encouraged
to submit articles. This includes members and non-members, articles may
cover any welding related topics including; procedures, quality, memberships,
contibutions, donations and other subjects that would be of interest to
the welding comunity. If you are not sure, please contact the Chairman
or one of the other officers. This is your newsletter and we want it to
work for you.
