April 29 - STUDENT DAY* - ANYONE MAY ATTEND

Where: Penn State Fayette Campus, Rt. 51 South between Uniontown and Connelsville
Time: 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
*United Defense will not be conducting tours on April 29th for our Student Day
due to security issues.
Highlighted Exhibits:
Lincoln Electric Welding in Motorsports
Lincoln Electric is the official welding products of NASCAR. Lincoln conducts 10-15 Motorsports Welding Schools a year for the top NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA, and other racing circuits. The speaker for Lincoln Electric wil be Ryan Ewbank, Motorsports Welding Instructor. Ryan, will speak on the different types of welding used in the different car designs, and handling the special alloys such as chrome moly, etc. Lincoln will have their display trailer on hand, all attendees will receive 2005 NASCAR schedules and be eligible for other door prizes. In addition, Motordrome Speedway will also be on hand with a car and race pass door prizes.

We will also have information tables set up with representatives for various Trade Unions to give students the opportunity to find out what each craft is looking for in potential apprentices.

Our program will still be from 9:30a.m. - 11:30p.m. with lunch after for those that can stay. Hope to see all of you on April 29th at Penn State University Fayette Campus Uniontown, PA.

May 10 - AWS MEETING: USING THE INTERNET AS A SOURCE
FOR FINDING WELDING INFORMATION

Speaker: Carl Spaeder
This presentation by Carl Spaeder is based on his experience presenting a Welding Metallurgy Class on-line at the Westmoreland Community College. His presentation will feature a selecting a search engine, favorite sites, and an outline of resources used in his welding metallurgy classes. Our speaker is a semi-retired metallurgist who is has been a member of the Pittsburgh chapter for 35 years. His professional career involved 30 years at USX where he retired as the corporate welding consultant, three years as a research engineer at Lehigh University, and nine years as the senior materials engineer at Aristech Chemical Corporation. Since retirement in 1999, he is engaged in private consulting and teaches welding metallurgy at Westmoreland Community College. Carl is a PE with degrees in metallurgy from Penn State University, Carnegie-Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.
