DETAILS:
Divers Academy International offers a comprehensive and practical education program that prepares and places commercial divers in the United States and around the world. Rob will also discuss underwater welding and Inspection.
Speaker: Robert MURRAY
Rob is no stranger to AWS. His knowledge in commercial Diving and presentation has always drawn a good crowd to our meetings and we are looking forward to another fabulous meeting.
Topic: DEEP SEA DIVING WELDING AND INSPECTION
The Divers Academy Commercial Deep Sea Diving Program is designed to keep pace with the various and changing demands of the commercial diving industry. Divers Academy International´s full-immersion training provides commercial diving students with the equivalent of an employer´s most sought-after qualification: on-the-job experience.
Our graduates have gone on to find success in several sectors of commercial diving such as:
• Offshore Diving: This typically deals with commercial divers working in the production sector of the oil and gas industry, maintaining oil platforms and building underwater structures.
• Inland/onshore diving: Similar in terms of nature of work to offshore diving, onshore diving mainly deals with civil engineering work, Bridge Inspection and repair, cable burial, pile and pier repair.
• Hazmat Diving: Hazmat diving, requiring highly skilled commercial divers, typically involves repairing damaged pipelines, pollution control work, underwater welding inside sewers or septic tanks.
• Nuclear Diving: Nuclear diving involves conducting repairs around areas of radiation hotspots.
• Scientific Diving: This mainly involves the study and testing of underwater environments for scientific purposes.
Rob is always eager to answer your questions.

About Steamfitters Local 420 Training
STEAMFITTERS’ LOCAL 420 TRAINING FACILITY
Steamfitters’ Local Union 420 apprenticeship training covers all aspects of the piping industry. None of which is as important to our trade as welding. The beginning apprentice is introduced to welding immediately upon starting their apprenticeship. Generally, an eight hour class day consist of 2 hours of welding with that time increasing as their apprenticeship moves forward. Our training school is recognized by the United Association as an Authorized Testing Facility. We have 32 weld booths, all equipped to train in every aspect of our industry. Our instructional staff is highly skilled and have worked in the trade as certified welders for an average of 15 or more years before becoming full time apprentice instructors. We currently have four ATR’s (authorized test representatives) and two of whom are CWI’s. We have around 250 registered apprentices at any given time, with 30 to 40 completing their apprenticeship every August and February. On average we have been graduating around 75% with at least one weld qualification and many with two or more.
