Director's Message of Divers Academy International
by Tamara Brown
Welcome to the exciting and rapidly growing world of commercial diving. As a result of recent and widespread natural disasters, as well as the continued growth in the offshore energy business, our industry is expanding, bringing an increasing demand for commercial divers and rising salaries. With hurricane relief work in the Southeast, infrastructure repair work in the Northeast, and oil operations work offshore, the majority of our graduates are employed at the conclusion of our five-month program.
Our program is all-inclusive, (full story here)
History of Divers Academy International
Divers Academy International was founded in 1977, to meet the high demand for commercial divers in the offshore oil industry and the growing need for divers in the inland harbors and rivers of the world.
The dynamic nature of the industry leads to continual program advances. Remotely operated vehicles and non-destructive Inspectrons programs were added to the curriculum in 1991. Bridge inspection requirements increased in the mid 1990’s,
Chairman' Message
Greetings,
Last month’s meeting was a roundtable discussion on welding problems and solutions that took some interesting turns. The scheduled speaker cancelled for health reasons and we filled the meeting with an interesting talk. Our last meeting for this year is the student night that will be held as a (invitation only for the students) that competed in our welding competition ran by our student chairman Dan Roskiewich. It will be held at the diver's academy in Erial, NJ on April 22. Members are welcome but please email us so we have a count for the caterer. It has been a real honor being your chairman this past year, I highly recommend it.
Respectfully
Gary Atherton

We Hope that you find this electronic newsletter to be an added benefit to your membership to the American Welding society as well as to provide some tools that you can use on a daily basis.
The American Welding Society (AWS) was founded in 1919 as a multifaceted, nonprofit organization with a goal to advance the science, technology and application of welding and related joining disciplines.
The careers that stem from welding as well as the projected shortages of welders in the near future provide a wonderful forum to give back to an art and trade that we all have benefited from.

Discussed at our last meeting
(CK Exclusive)
CK Worldwide’s Wedge™ collet design is superior to the 50 year old standard design. The Wedge™ collet does not have a slot, thus eliminating twisting and deformation of the collet. This makes the Wedge™ collet more durable, lasting 10 times longer than standard split collets. With CK’s patented Wedge™ collet design the tungsten is put in direct contact with the collet body. The current transfer point is at the collet body creating better arc starting, better arc stability, less resistance heating, and less low current arc wander. The Wedge™ collet design creates a better mechanical grip requiring less pressure on the back cap to secure the tungsten electrode. This will help eliminate possible stripping of the threads on the torch head itself.
Direct interchangeability with all standard collets!
