Chart Industries

Chart Industries, Inc., formerly known as Minnesota Valley Engineering (MVE), began operating in 1963 in New Prague, Minnesota, to service the breeding industry. MVE started out manufacturing highly engineered liquid nitrogen dewars used to preserve and store bull semen. Over the years, MVE expanded its product lines and operations to include two additional plants in the U.S., one in China, one in Australia, and one in the Czech Republic. In March of 1999, Chart Industries acquired MVE to create the largest cryogenic equipment company in the world. The Chart/MVE plant located in New Prague, Minnesota, is the MVE founding site and is in its 42nd year of operation. At the company’s 240,000-square-foot plant in New Prague, workers manufacture bulk storage tanks, transport tanks and trailers, helium and hydrogen storage tanks, railcars, insulated pipe, nitrogen storage systems, and low temperature storage freezers for the artificial insemination market and the medical research industry. These products are used in many cryogenic applications.

Currently, this facility employs 400 people and manufactures 750 tanks per year. There are over 50,000 Cryogenic Bulk Tanks installed in the U.S. alone, and Chart builds 70 percent of the current demand.
